Free Dance Saturday, New Classes!!

YES, TOMORROW, SATURDAY NOVEMBER 3RD: SAC AU LAIT at Centerstage!! 5pm-8pm in their upper lobby. This is not only FREE but they're giving our dancers FREE TICKETS to the show "Hearts" that's running that day.. you can choose either to see the 2pm matinee and then stay to dance, or dance and then see the 8pm show. The space is awesome. The floor is tight carpeting but don't worry, you can definitely spin and dance comfortably on this... we tried it out!! One thing: you MUST preregister for this, since they need a guest list for both the dancing as well as the show. It's a beautiful space. $10 ($5 for students) with a free beginner swing dance lesson at 8pm, and a dance from 9pm-midnight. Yes, they ALL filled last time, so you better sign up quick!! Classes begin November 20, 2007 and end January 22, 2008 (skipping Christmas and New Years). As always, these series are registered and paid in advance (or on the first day). Cost is $80 per 8 week series ($50 for students). Or try one of our packages of $140 for 2 series ($90 for students). There is a limit of 24 students per class (12 leaders, 12 followers), so sign up early!! NOTE: We WILL cut off registration at 12 leaders and 12 followers. It is OK to miss some classes here or there. TUESDAYS NOV-JAN 7:30-8:30 Introduction to Lindy Hop (Beginner/Intermediate) Even if you have some Lindy Hop experience, it is always recommended to continue learning basic technique. If you have taken this class before, you can repeat it for FREE any time you want. NOTE: We encourage you to take this class with the Beginnings/Endings class at 8:30. Prerequisite: a few weeks of the Monday classes or other swing dance experience. Moves Taught: basic in closed; basic in open & sendout to open; underarm turn & tuck turn; slide pass right & left; swingout; swingout with inside turn; lindy circle; charleston basic TUESDAYS NOV-JAN 8:30-9:30 Beginnings and Endings (Beginner/Intermediate) This class is all about beginning a song with moves that get you in tune with your partner and the music, and leaving your partner with a lasting impression of the perfect dip, pose, or turn. We'll give examples of frequently played songs and how to hit the big finale for each. NOTE: We encourage you to take this class with either the 7:30 Intro or the 9:30 Jam class. Prerequisite: a few weeks of the Monday classes or other swing dance experience. TUESDAYS NOV-JAN 9:30-10:30 Jam Material (Intermediate/Advanced) Here they are: the best-loved patterns, tricks, and footwork and timing variations for performance situations. In addition to widely-recognized steps, we'll show you some of the moves we have invented over the years for competition routines. Hopkins Saturday, Patterson Park Sunday

This SATURDAY (20th), there will be a 1/2 Blues 1/2 Lindy dance at Johns Hopkins in the Glass Pavillion (instead of a Friday dance) (for those of you who have been attending the Friday dances there, Glass Pavillion is right near the Great Hall except instead of going straight at the entrance just turn right down the hall). It's a beautiful space! $10 ($5 for students) includes a FREE BLUES LESSON FOR ALL LEVELS (cool Blues stuff that anyone can learn) at 8pm, and a dance from 9pm-midnight. Live Band Fridays start in October!

Sundays: Dancing in Patterson Park, noon-3pm. September and October, except October 7 the outdoor dancing will be at the Fells Point funfest instead of Patterson Park (more details coming soon). Dancing Labor Day is ON!! And other news.

Just a reminder - we WILL be having dancing at Austin Grill this Monday, Sept 3, Labor Day. As usual, lesson will be at 8pm and dancing at 9pm. And of course as usual you don't need a partner, just show up and we'll teach you. The Tuesday 8-week series will begin on the 4th. Pretty much all classes are filled - there's room for a couple more leaders in the 7:30 class and some followers in the 9:30 class. Between Sept 16 and October 21st, there will be FREE OUTDOOR DANCING IN BALTIMORE!! You will learn partnered, leadable charleston steps for Lindy Hop. Nina knows enough steps to teach this topic for fifty hours, but, somehow, she will magically distill that amount of material into only one hour! Rest assured you will learn a lot. Flying Lindy 101 2:45pm - 3:45pm This workshop is all about getting your lazy bones moving to a place where your lindy hop is fast, linear, and dynamic! The class will include spicing up what you know and some moves you don't know. Solo jazz and partnered solo jazz 4:00pm - 5:00pm Authentic jazz steps are a cornerstone of lindy hop. This class will cover some really awesome jazz steps and lots of ways to integrate them back into your lindy hop so that you can enjoy them with a partner. Act IV, Nina's Challenge 5:15pm - 6:15pm Seriously, this is for advanced dancers only. Nina knows what you need, and in this class you'll get the wisdom of one of the world's great young lindy hoppers. You'll certainly get valuable tips on your basics, cool stuff, syncopations, and advanced swivels in midair.
